Privacy
Short version: Pocket+ has no analytics, no tracking and no account. Your video, photos and recordings never leave your Mac. The app only goes online to check for updates and, if you buy Pro, to verify your license.
What the app sends
Pocket+ makes exactly two kinds of network requests:
- Update checks go to GitHub (
api.github.com), asking for the latest release. The request includes the app's version number. GitHub sees your IP address like any website does. You can turn this off in Settings › Updates › Check automatically, and check by hand with Check now. - License checks go to Gumroad (
api.gumroad.com) only when you activate Pro and occasionally afterwards to confirm the license is still valid. The request contains your license key and the product ID. Gumroad already has your purchase details because you bought from them.
Nothing else is sent: no usage statistics, no crash reports, no identifiers.
What stays on your Mac
- Video and sound from the camera are processed on your Mac. Recordings and photos are saved to the folder you choose (Movies by default).
- Face tracking and auto framing use Apple's Vision framework on your Mac. The app finds where a face is in the picture. It doesn't recognize who someone is and doesn't store faces.
- Your Pro license is stored in your Mac's Keychain, tied to that Mac.
- Settings and scenes are stored in the app's preferences on your Mac.
Permissions
macOS asks you to allow these the first time they're needed:
- Camera and microphone: to show and record the Pocket's picture and sound.
- Bluetooth: to read the Pocket's battery level and whether it's recording to its card. The app only reads this status and doesn't send anything to other devices.
This website
pocketplus.app is a static site hosted on GitHub Pages. It has no cookies, no analytics and no tracking scripts. GitHub, as the host, processes your IP address to serve the pages. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so Google also receives your IP address when you visit. Purchases happen on Gumroad, under Gumroad's privacy policy.
